Pumpkins & squash were vital crops for Indigenous peoples & early Americans.   Discover how 18th-century families preserved, dried, & cooked pumpkins before modern ovens & refrigerators.
Create natural pumpkin-print artwork and/or traditional corn husk dolls.

November 3, 25, & 28 2026-Hearth Cooking: Open-Flame Cooking in the 18th-Century Hearth

Try your hand at preparing historic recipes over the open flame in our 18th-century reproduction fireplace!

Learn where early American families sourced their ingredients (gardens, root cellars, and local gristmills) & explore period cooking and baking tools like Dutch ovens, spiders, and peel boards.

December 2, 23, & 30-Dancing, Toys & Games: Early American Parties, Celebrations & Play

Early America wasn't all work and no play! When the chores were done, people gathered for lively parties, assemblies, and neighborhood frolics. They sure knew how to "cut a rug."

Join us to show off your dancing skills, step into an 18th-century ballroom, and explore the classic toys that kept colonial kids entertained all winter long.
