48 Orchard Rd - 48 Orchard Rd, West Hartford, CT, USA

On Sunday, September 27, 2020 the public will have an exclusive opportunity to tour the magnificent private home at 48 Orchard Road. Don’t miss your chance to experience West Hartford’s own Seven Gables. The home will be open for public tours for one day only.

Tour size - Entries to the home are timed to minimize group size. Groups will be about 10 people each (maximum 12.)

Parking - Because parking onsite is extremely limited, the museum will be offering a shuttle bus to Seven Gables. Please park at Braeburn School (45 Braeburn Rd. West Hartford) 15 minutes prior to your ticket time. The shuttle will take a small number of guests up to Seven Gables at a time. After your tour, the shuttle will bring you back to the Braeburn parking lot. Please contact the Noah Webster House to make arrangements if you require accommodations.

The house known as Seven Gables is an amazing 8,700 sq. ft. private dwelling situated on six acres overlooking the Hartford skyline. The stately brick home was designed by Ebbets & Frid and built by the Tychsen Brothers in 1931 for Ida Hamilton Roberts and her daughter Louise. The Roberts family moved to West Hartford from Hartford, where they had earned a fortune from the carpet industry in the mid-to-late 19th century.

Beginning in 1941, the Guinness family made 48 Orchard Road their home. Rev. George G. Guinness was rector at St. James’ Episcopal Church in West Hartford. His wife, Catherine Monks Spencer Guinness was the heir to the Spencer Turbine fortune. The Guinness family were patrons of the arts and hosted many performers in their lavish home.

Learn more about the architecture of the mansion, the development of Orchard Road, and the Roberts and Guinness families during this exclusive event. Guests will explore the mansion and a bonus carriage house, after which they may explore the magnificent grounds.

The West Hartford House Tour: Seven Gables will take place on Sunday, September 27, 2020 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance ($15 for museum members) or $25 after September 25 and at the door. Advanced registration is highly recommended.

The house is currently vacant, waiting for its forever family, which provides the perfect opportunity for guests to visit the home while adhering to COVID-19 safety precautions. There will be timed entry into the mansion with a limited number of people allowed per time slot. Social distancing will be maintained, and the use of face masks is mandatory. On-site parking is limited. Please plan on carpooling with your party.

Thank you listing agent Shalini Madaras at Silver Pine Real Estate for offering to open the house as a fundraiser for the museum. If you are interested in learning more about the property contact Shalini Madaras at (203) 451-6622 or shalinimad@aol.com.

The West Hartford House Tour: Seven Gables would not be possible without the financial support of presenting sponsor The Miale Team at Keller Williams and gold sponsor J.P. Carroll Construction.
